Extra Gentle Care For Their Gums And Teeth

Kids need regular dental checkups and cleanings just like adults do. These visits are crucial for keeping their teeth and gums healthy and making sure everything is developing as it should. Professional cleanings get rid of plaque, tartar, and pesky bacteria that can cause cavities, gum disease, and even bad breath. Plus, a friendly hygienist can reach spots that might be tricky for kids to clean on their own at home.

After a thorough cleaning, it’s prime time for the hygienist and dentist to take a close look at your child’s overall oral health. They’ll keep an eye out for any trouble spots, track the progress of baby teeth coming in or falling out, and watch as adult teeth take their permanent places. If they spot any concerns, they’ll fill you in and offer personalized tips and tricks for keeping up with oral care at home, all geared toward your child’s unique needs.

Routine pediatric teeth cleanings and exams help to:

  • Ensure baby teeth and new adult teeth remain healthy and strong.
  • Prevent gum disease and support overall oral health.
  • Track their development and milestones through various changes.
  • Foster a positive relationship with the dentist.
  • Encourage kids to take responsibility for their oral health at home.
  • Instill good habits that will last a lifetime.

What Happens During Children’s Teeth Cleaning?

Before the check-up, we review their chart and history to quickly identify any problem areas or patterns of concern. We may take prescribed X-rays or discuss fluoride treatment or sealants for new adult teeth. We will communicate with your child in a kid-friendly manner to ensure they feel comfortable, asking them about their feelings regarding their teeth and mouth and if they have any questions or concerns they’d like to share.

Gum Health

Often overlooked, gums are vital in supporting your child’s teeth and shaping their smile. Maintaining good gum health is crucial as permanent teeth emerge, and children are just as prone to inflammatory gum diseases as adults. We carefully examine the soft tissues in their mouth and offer age-appropriate guidance for flossing and gum care at home.

Plaque & Tartar Removal

Plaque is like a sticky film that latches onto teeth, and if left unchecked, it hardens into tartar, causing tooth decay. Hygienists have the tools to remove this buildup, especially from tricky spots between teeth and along the gumline. Afterward, a fluoride treatment might be recommended to strengthen the enamel.

Watching for Milestones

During your child’s dental visit, the dentist will review their chart and any recent X-rays to spot any issues, patterns, or new developments. Kids usually start getting their baby teeth between 6 months and 6 years old. These baby teeth will eventually fall out, making way for their permanent adult teeth, which come in throughout their teens and even later for wisdom teeth. Since every kid is different, the dentist keeps a close eye on their progress and handles any concerns or delays that pop up along the way.

Cost of a Routine Pediatric Teeth Cleaning and Exam in London

Routine checkups for kids, like those for adults, are crucial for preventing and avoiding dental problems. Most insurance companies will nearly cover the cost of these visits. With typical insurance, you might expect to pay as little as $0 to $50 (or more). Coverage is usually provided every six months, except in special circumstances. Without dental insurance, the cost can range from $120 to $300 or more, especially for the initial appointment or if it has been a long time since the last visit.

When calculating the actual cost of your child’s treatment, we consider several important factors:

  • Their current oral health.
  • Any new X-rays that might be necessary.
  • Fluoride treatments or sealants for new adult teeth.
  • The amount of time the dental team needs to meet their specific needs.
  • The equipment and supplies required to address all their needs.

It’s important to note that no dentist can provide an exact quote over the phone. If you would like more personalized information or an itemized quote, we are happy to provide one upon request. Routine pediatric dental care is vital, as monitoring the changes in their mouths as they grow is the best way to prevent costly and painful complications.

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Routine pediatric dental care is essential because it helps monitor your child’s oral health development, prevents future dental problems, and ensures their baby and adult teeth remain healthy and strong. Regular check-ups can detect early signs of decay, gum disease, and other issues, allowing for timely intervention and treatment.

Gum health is crucial as it supports your child’s teeth and frames their smile. Healthy gums are vital when permanent teeth are coming in. Children are susceptible to inflammatory gum diseases just like adults, which can affect their overall oral health. Regular dental visits help maintain healthy gums and prevent gum disease.

Encouraging good oral hygiene habits at home is crucial for your child’s dental health. Ensure they brush their teeth twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily to remove plaque between teeth, and maintain a balanced diet low in sugary foods and drinks. Regular dental visits also provide personalized advice tailored to your child’s needs.

If your child has dental anxiety, it’s important to communicate this to the dentist. Pediatric dentists are trained to handle dental anxiety and can use kid-friendly language and techniques to make your child feel more comfortable. Establishing a positive relationship with the dentist through regular visits can also help reduce anxiety over time.

Don’t wait. If you have any concerns about your child’s teeth or oral health, it’s best to come in right away. Addressing any issues while they’re still minor can prevent them from becoming more serious and ensure your child’s oral health remains on track.

Dr. Darwish and his staff are absolutely amazing. I had avoided dentists for over 25 years and recently I went in and had the last 9 teeth pulled and new dentures. He made me feel so comfortable through the whole process and got me in right away for any issues I had after. I am so happy with my new teeth and am able to smile again and have gained a lot of self confidence back. I am so grateful to him and all he has done for me. I highly recommend Wellington Dental.

I had my root canal and crown done at Wellington Dental, and I had a positive experience. Many dentists in London are great, but Dr. Nabhan really stood out to me. He was very confident in what he was doing, and his steady, confident hands throughout the procedure made me feel completely at ease. I don’t have dental insurance, so I paid out of pocket, and I must say the pricing was very reasonable. I’m grateful for the care I received and would definitely recommend them.
